  • The poem below was written by Doris Warshay. It captures the essence of living deeply, joyfully, and successfully.

    I want to travel as far as I can go,
    I want to reach the joy that's in my soul,
    And change the limitations that I know,
    And feel my mind and spirit grow;
    I want to live, exist, "to be,"
    And hear the truths inside of me.

  • The following is a poem taken from my book. I wrote it for my son just after he left for college; it was difficult letting go. Not only do the following words speak of seizing the moment, but also of love, appreciation, and using your imagination.

    "Now and Then"

    The cool breeze blows gently across my face;
    I close my eyes and instantly
    I'm back in time, another place.

    I see a little boy smiling, full of energy,
    quietly on his way to becoming a man,
    Only it seems so far away.

    Then, but not now. Today he's grown,
    and my heart is filled with memories of that boy and happy times together.

    The sun comes in the window
    as afternoon makes it way to evening.
    No one sits at the table today to play games,
    but I remember.

    I pass by the old house, lake, and school;
    scenes come rushing back to fill my mind
    and heart all at once.
    I smile and cry at the same time.

    Such joy for all that's been!
    Such sweet sorrow
    because I can't hold that little hand
    and look down into his dark eyes,
    and be "Mom" again in the same way.

    To be needed and loved by a child
    growing in wonder at life's gifts is a gift itself.
    And I'm thankful, not just for then,
    but as always, for now.

    • The following is a poem I found many years ago that has deep meaning about appreciating the present moment.

      "Prayer for Now"

      Today, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, savor you, bless you before you depart.

      Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it will not always be so.

      One day I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in the pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky, and want more than all the world your return.
